SIGNED BY BILL WATTERSON – The Calvin and Hobbes Lazy Sunday Book RARE AUTHENTIC
The Holy Grail of cartoonist autographs, personally obtained and genuine. This is a trade paperback Scholastic Books 1997 first printing of The Calvin and Hobbes Lazy Sunday Book, inscribed and signed in black ink to the title page. I am the “Jim” for whom Bill Watterson inscribed the book. Here’s the entire true story: In 1997, I was working at an office in northeast Ohio where I had pinned up on my bulletin board Calvin and Hobbes strips I had cut and collected from newspapers over the years before the strip’s demise on January 1, 1995. A secretary at the office noticed that I was a huge fan, and confided in me that Bill Watterson’s grandmother attended the same church as she. I pleaded with her to take one of my collection books and ask Bill’s grandmother if she could possibly have him sign it for me. The secretary reported to me on Monday that she handed over the book, and Bill’s grandmother said she would try, but she couldn’t make any promises because he was extremely reticent about signing anything by then. Weeks went by, and I had given up hope. Finally, one Monday, the secretary handed me back my book and there in bold beautiful black ink was the inscription, “For Jim with best wishes, Bill Watterson”. I was stunned and grateful beyond words. The book has been carefully stored for 27 years now. The covers are slightly foxed around the edges from age, but the inside pages and page edges are clean. The colors remain vibrant. There is a slight wear tear at the lower left bound edge of the front cover and a slight blemish to the top bound edge of the back cover. Otherwise, no bends or folds to the cover or pages. The photos depict the book as well as possible so examine them carefully. Please note that the faint black spots you may see are due to a faulty Pixel 7 camera lens and are not on the actual book. It’s time for me to let this book go to a new owner who will treasure it as I did for all these years. Check my 100% feedback and bid with confidence. I will ship free via USPS the day after payment to Calvin and Hobbes’ lucky new owner.
